DESIGN TRENDS OF THIS SEASON!

Colors, patterns, themes….all make wonderful interiors…

Psychedelic colors : This art of mind manifesting is inspiring and is extrovert enough to enliven us from the core. Use this as the theme or a painting and just use its colors to fill the dead spaces of your home.

Nautical pattern : The most fascinating thing about nautical design is it has all the shapes, geometric, spiral, oval…all..so inspirations are unstoppable. They sober the interiors and add a disciplined touch.

Geometrical patterns : Some patterns can never ever bore us…use it on the furnishings, wallpaper, rugs any soft furnishings …it will unveil and different perspective of the room.

Color : Favorite color of the season – Dusty rose…lovely color, sober and rich…I like this because it goes along with all the color schemes vibrant or dull.

Specially nude shade…having a sofa fabric or a curtain fabric of this color will create a plush feel to the room.

Metal : Metal finishes the break the monotony of the colors and stereotype furnishings, these are the easiest way to renovate your home. Few wall decorative, of metal lamp shades or crockery items for display.

Lights : The only reason your space can add up drama is with proper sufficient light. The trendiest lights today are the geometrical shaped lights. Table lamp or hanging lights, open or closed, geometrical shapes are in.

Or just add a fancy laser engraved led light to your casa and be a “wow” for all your guests.

Flooring : Patterned tiles …add up the lavishness and accentuate the space of the room. If tiles are a major work to consider then, just add up a nice rug with such patterns and see your house transform.

KITCHEN 2015

Hey...I was out for an revolutionary experience about the new kitchen designs....

I say revolutionary cuz they really have articulated the perspective design and images into this live living and active , functional kitchen.....dramatically design with mixing of two very different textures and materials...

Kitchens which we normally know as.....now let's see the new kitchen models.

Plain lines and straight models ....what I love is the colors...amazing mix of colors, neutral nude with bold dark colors....

Lights have played a vital role for this season's design and the best lighting for any kitchen always is warm white.....just go with the stylish textures and materials but try not to overdo the lighting...

If your kitchen is a display kitchen then have a fancy design with stylish finish somewhat like this....so 2015 Kitchens are all worth showing off....

Now what really impressed me are the storage and table setting ideas...like a removable desk under the counter used as serving and work platform....

All these have a wonderful use and looks both....the textures used are user friendly and beautiful to look at.

Push button open shelf doors with inbuilt lights make our life much much easy while working...even the pantry storage are push button and are hydraulically fitted for a smooth operation.

Choose backsplash tiles smartly like the glass tiles which have a handsome look to your workspace and of course are maintainence free....

So let's renovated our kitchen with the most convenient and attractive designs...

Fine living starts with proper conceptualisation. We are very particular about perfect and sophisticated living, but do we also create our homes with such perfection? Are we even germane to the ambience we are living in? Perhaps not. But this can only be achieved, if our home interiors have a certain kind of concept implemented. Concepts are basically abstract ideas which have a certain pattern, story, theme or similarity of items. This might be the designers’ jargon, but should be understood by people implementing it. People tend to avoid this exercise because of two reasons. First is the lack of knowledge or the fundamentals of concepts. Second would be the fear of misspending.

However, there are ways through which a common man can conceptualise in accordance with requirements, without having to burn a hole through his/her pocket. Let us look at some easy ways of achieving the designer look in your home, shall we?

Traditional style
It is the compilation of a certain culture. Given that we all come from a certain culture or background, it’s implementation can become the concept of our beautiful home. For instance, many homes have French windows, trying to emulate the French culture. Many western countries customise their designs with Indian elements in it. To get such 
dramatic looks for your home, start with the conceptualisation. 

Select a particular tradition, one which you would prefer to live in. Do not put in too many elements, like artefacts, furniture items or farrago. We always tend to overdo the quantity of items, which affects the quality of the outcome. For example, if you are executing the Indian concept, make sure the rooms have earthy tones, fabrics are brightly coloured and the furniture is beautifully carved and has a heavy look. The Indian design does not give a gossamer feel, but a very warm and royal touch.

Contemporary look
Otherwise known as modern design, to implement this concept, use shapes for inspiration, like straight lines, circles and the like. Choose one such shape. You might take your room structure as the inspiration. If the room orientation is rectangle, then let your design concept be based on a rectangle and straight lines. Place your 
furniture accordingly. Also while buying your furniture, make sure to buy items, which have very plain designs (straight lines). It’s best if the fabric is also plain; it should not have any intricate works.

‘Simple’ is the mantra for contemporary designs. The artefacts also are very blunt and bare. The colours are not supposed to be too many; the beauty of this concept is such that the whole room can get a very vibrant ambience in just two or three colours. If colours interest you, then make sure to play with bright colours on sober  designs or the other way round.

Amalgamated concept
This one is extremely popular because it gives a very colourful and rich feel. If your furniture is contemporary, throw in pillows, which are very traditional and would add colour and depth to the design. In such designs, ratio is very important, that is, the intensity of traditional and contemporary concept shoulds be in the ratio of 2:1 or vice-versa. 

You may choose any two concepts; the basics would be the same. If both the 
concepts have the same ratio, the room would look very crowded. A better example is you may have draperies, which are traditional and have wall paintings, which are modern. Another way to go about it would be to segregate the items individually and categorise into concepts. The categorisation is very important as it frames the space into the highlighted concept.

Colour codes
Most of us are well aware of colour categories: primary colours and secondary colours. The raw colours, that is, the original colours of nature are primary colours and the colours that are the outcome of mixing two primary colours are secondary colours. It is not strange to have a concept relying just on these colour categories; rather it is much simpler.

You may start with choosing one colour category. Now, let the darker shade be the background and splash some light shades of the same on the loose items. For 
example, if you go with primary colours, choose any dark shade of blue for the 
furniture, or the wall and colour the cushions and curtains in any light shade of yellow.
If you want to be specific, choose fabrics for your curtains, furniture and cushions with such concept. You can also have a contrasting design that would implement both the colour categories. 

It is important to know the balance of the colour intensity, that is, not too much of the dark shade and not much of the light shade; there should be an equal ratio. The same 
ratio is applicable for the contrasting concept as well. However, take care to 
ensure that this does not hamper the natural light of the room.

And whichever concept you decide, make sure you give it everything it needs to add sophistication and elan to your homes.

KUTCH

I love this place cuz it literally stimulated my talent bones...

Kutch has been inspired by Perisan art but with few indian twists...

There are few arts of Kutch ( out of so many) which I like to showcase...as my upcoming project would also have few similar inspired designs...

BHUNGAS - LIPPANKAM

BHUNGAS are structure which have a light dome-shaped bamboo and thatched roof and a circular wall plastered with mud, twigs and dung. This structure protects them from all extreme climates.

LIPPANKAM means mud work design specially done by a caste of women called as 'RABAARIS'

The moulded mud work has inserts of mirror which increase the intensity of the light in the room...very intelligent and beautiful..

Some houses are just based on nude pastel colors but ,many are colored artistically...

What I really liked is that every tribe here has a different style of art in their home and so are they known and professionally bifurcated

There other external paint works done by locals which a mix for islamic art and geometric shapes....I personally found this concept very modern even though it is an antique form of art..

ROGAN

This is an art done on fabrics...it is basically a paste which is laid manually with certain pattern. The best part is to observe the process, its very interesting.....they basically 

freehand a design on side of the fabric and fold the other side so the paste sticks to the other side giving it a symmetrical look.

The paste is nothing but vigorously boiled castor oil and mixed with vegetable colors...

BALCONY SEATS...

BALCONY SEATING!!!

After my most liked post about balconies, I thought of posting a little more on that.

Lets talk about seating and cozy setting for our balconies.

What do we need....a clean and neat space....which has a width of around 4' to 6' 

And also understand the shape of your balcony...

RECTANGLE

Now a days rectangular balconies are the only fashion in metropolitan cities...as they save a lot of space and give an ample view....

Two tables and one small table with few plantation pots...Try using the length of your balcony without 

disturbing the width and the view. Like placing lots of pot and creepers and basically using the end or the corner of the balcony.

Just work on your thoughts to make the best use of the corner i.e for storage + seating, just a decor wall, or just seating.

Balconies which have marginally less width are little tricky to handle but try using materials according to the width and length like foldable tables and chairs..

SEMI CIRCULAR

These had originated as luxurious balconies as they use good amount of space but have a very beautiful 180 degree view.

Round balconies don't have any different seating than the rectangle one...but only that the seating should be in the center for an unobstructed view...

Also most of all the round balconies have a parapet walls which sometimes obstruct view to a certain level.

So why not have a view of our own...grow a two level garden.....

TRAPEZIUM

I personally like these type of balconies as they give a good view, good corners and that extra space.

The extra space that protrudes in the front is good for seating and if the seating is on one side then use the front side as a display space.

But use such balconies properly or you may end up either doing nothing or doing two much....one thing is sure to be the ground rule for a balcony - 

NEVER CLUTTER YOUR BALCONY

BALCONY IS NOT A STORAGE ROOM

Always keep your balcony clean and usable.

Decorate the a closed balcony only for the internal view and an open balcony for internal and external view. 

All the other balconies like square are not that challenging....

Warm room with a cosy relax chair, a cup of coffee and my favourite books....dis is my favourite timepass...

Recently I met a client who had similar interests but she actually wanted a space like this....and we gave her...a library within a 1000 sqt house.

What you basically need is a quiet space or a warm corner, few good books and a nice set of furniture.

It depends on the quantity of books that need to be placed in your library. The room should be designed as per the following :

1. Quantity of books

2. Ventilation available in the room

3. Orientation of the room

4. Placement of the library in the house

Like this house has focused their library on to their natural view.

What we need to make a cozy library :

1. A beautiful book rack

2. A nice cozy chair

3. A good light

4. Few interesting accessories

5. Few comfortable bedding accessories

BOOK SHELF

The book shelves should have comfortable access and the gap between the shelves should be more than 12" to 15".

Here we see, the light is concentrating on one corner...which is not good for our vision and aesthetically not beautiful. 

The room lights should always increase the visibility of the books.

FEW ACCESSORIES

Small accessories make a huge difference as they add lot of color and breathing space within the rack. Also the library become a display rack so one can put self family picture frames and picture calender.
